Now, I'm being kinda forward by giving advice when I wasn't asked, but I was wondering if you were looking for gameplay ideas or if you pretty much had everything figured out. Anyway, here's my 2 cents:
Power-ups.
Does anybody have any ideas on any kind of unique power-ups?
Here's my take on the usual group:
Quad-damage, or, in this case, Damage Multiplier. After you pick up this item, some kind of little robot buddies could join you firing weapons at the same time as you do for the extra damage, much like the attack bits in Macross II. However, the exact number of buddies you get would be randomly generated, from 1-3 (or whatever). Thus, instead of Quad Damage, you might get double damage or triple damage or whatever. It would require extra models to be present in the game.
Invulnerability - Just some kind of shield generator that would projuect a shield around you. Bonus: invulnerability. Cons: Would have to see the world thru a colored haze (of whatever color the shield would be). The visual effect could prob just be a shader of some kind projected over the player model.
Haste/Speed - Big Ass Boosters Mounted on the back of the mecha. Increased speed but maybe not as manouverable.
There could also be some kind of more permanent power-ups that would last until they were depleted instead of timed like these previous ideas. Like the Fast Packs for Macross - would get extra armour and speed and maybe some extra weapons/firepower but nothing too much unpowering. When the extra armour was depleted, the "Fast Pack" (for lack of better, uncopyrighted term) would be ejected. <br>Or how about parrying. A common tactic in both Macross and Gundam. Many of the mecha you guys have posted have large fore arm shields. Perhaps you could have a special attack that moves the arm in front of the player to either absorb some damage of have a set health of it's own to absorb all of the damage untill it is depleted. Make it have a "Barrier" kind of effedt to explain away the effect of it blocking your body from head to toe. Maybe you could have it be an extra melee attack as well by ramming people with it deployed. Bonus - extra armour, Con- the 1st person view would have severly curtailed field of vision becase of the big shield in front of his eyes.
Anyway, I know you guys didn't ask for any of this and probably have everything decided already as far as gameplay, but I thought what the heck, it's a forum, right? Isn't that what it is for? Suggestions? Buit if I start to get on your nerves with my little suggestion, just tell me to shut up, no bad feelings...
