Me and Tessai and Serious Gradpa were talking and came up with the idea for a small display panel for like the bottom left coner of the screen. you could switch between modes like zoom or S0 fusion detector (see through walls) ect.. or you could make this screen full screen. Programaictly a portal with a filter. or just a filter if you make it full screen I wanted to ask the coder how hard this would be to make and if its at all possible. what about radar? ect.. these would be a very nice feature to a mecha game,
and a advanced note, if your head unit got distroyed or even damaged you would have to relie on your reg visuals instead of zooming ect.. All Mecha would have these , but maybe some better then otheres .
Non-Related idea ************* What about armour that can be shot off, like detailed skelton . then armour, that can be shot off. if they shoot your helmet off then you would loose good visuals, leg armour would slow you down, and mess up your walking, and arm would slow your fireing down, I dont know about chest , maybe it cut yoru helth down by half , but just a another idea , tell me what you think about both ideas

I'm not so sure about the armor. It can be done, especially with SKA. I'm not so sure about actual armor flying off, but I do know that Sam can have "damage" textures. EX: the werebull gets blood patches when shot. We could modify the blood into a circuitry look, for damaged mecha. With the dammage effects, I'm not so sure about these. Shooting an arm won't really change the rate of fire for a weapon, as a machine wouldn't feel pain. Maybe it could reduce the damage done by energy weapons, if we claim those are cooled down by the coolant used in the s0. Mecha would most likeley have highly armored chests, so shooting it would not cut health down too badly. Motor units in the legs would be dammaged, so slowing down is a possibility, although I was never fond of this feature in other games.

Blah, stupid IE crashed after my reply. I'll summarize it then: (1) We can add a changing side display; radar is possible, and I guess zoom is too, but I'll need to check the fusion detector. (2) I don't know whether the engine supports multiple hit locations We can add a "wound" on the appropriate location, but don't know if we can identify it as an "arm" or a "leg". We can make the mecha weaker when it has less hitpoints (but it's not very anime-ish With heroes waking up after almost dying)

Thats what I meant by it would work with SKA, I'm pretty sure you could Identify which bone thedammage came from.

what is ska exactly, and if your talking about bones , i didn't think serious sam had them. however. you guys make some good points. I like the damage texture idea. but all that stuff was just ideas. I also like the hero aspect of play , a idea where when your almost dead you can do special attacks or some last attack or kamakasi or even just more powerfull, like a adrenline boost when your about to die that makes you hit harder on all attacks, except sniper of course, that owuld be unfair, go allmost die, then go hide and pick eveyone off with ease,
Just some ideas though, I think zoom and radar are going to be the most needed. zoom i think can be done with anohter camra and a portal, look at the tuts in the editor for camra. something like that maybe or just a portal thats attached to your full screen that you can adjust where it sees. haha
that would be cool have like a second set of eyes so you could postion it anywhere , like behind you so you could have like a "rear view mirror" hahah. if you had control of how much it zoom or which dir it was looking or even use for around the corner, we could have some very intersing fights. guys hiding that can see you, or someone trying to sneak up on someoen but that guy can see behind them. that would be pretty intense. for melee anyways

I think melee will go 3rd person, at least thats the best view for it that I've found. What would be intense is a melee system like that in Oni . I think I'm one of the only people that LIKED the game. Didn't sell as well as it should. Anyway, to answer your question, SKA does have to do with bones. Its the SKeletal Animation system. Sam will soon have bones . Edit - It doesn't like HTML

you Think oni is a intenst melee. wow your missing out, I am a BIG Fan of RUNE the game , all melee, you should check out the demo, but what i was implying at is having the window even for 3rd person, meaing you can use it while in third

Tessai, l liked Oni fights ;D
On the radar thing, that is a very cool idea. IC must be aware that he muyt code that every mecha has somekind of a s0fusion 'feature' which we can add to other objects too, so we can use that 'feature' to make our gameplay ideas related with s0f real.

Hehe, what I meant by it being intense, is the mecha would do the karate-style attacks, instead of using just melee weapons . That would be hard to do. Very hard to do.

nah you would just have to have a weapon selction like his hand and only have like two attackes , the codeing would be easy but the animation would be hard, very hard so legs two attacks and fists two attacks ectt. primary and then secondary. adn it could be a combo thing like the knife

I don't know, with weapons I say we forget the legs, if you don't have a weapon (or punch with an energy shield around the fist) then it could use the two attacks. . Maybe punch/uppercut, then snapkick/roundhouse? snapkick is your basic forward-moving kick, incase you haven't taken tae kwon do, and/or my memory is failing (haven't taken tae kwon do in... 7 years =\)

I would like t have a hammer-kick. You can use it when the opponent is almoust on the ground(crouching because of your last kick)...just BAAAAM - nailed the sucker on the ground ;D 8) ;D

I had to wait to reply to these, but it's just too cool. 8) Why not give each mecha it's own signature moves? Let's face it, a 'goad' is gonna have trouble making a piledriver, or anything involving hands cuz . . .well, it's just got two legs.
Think of our existing 4 mecha as unique individuals with unique fighting styles. For example, the QO and especially Goad would have offensive fighting styles, almost to a fault (broadly speaking, legs are considered offensive weapons in martial arts, arms are defensive), while the Vizen and Sazabi would be more defensive or all rounded.
For our mod, right now I'll be happy just to get animated running models in the game in the alphas and worry about inputing this in the betas. But yes, melee has always been big on my mind. Anyone ever remember the mecha hand to hand fight sequence in Macross Plus? Mecha are DESTRUCTIVE, man. More on the close in fighting once I email everyone some storyline today.

Oh, one last thing. Keep talking about HUDS. They need to be cool and original, but we need some inspiration. Any general areas we ought to look to for inspiration?
